St. Vincent Ferrer Statue

The St. Vincent Ferrer Statue is a colossal bamboo statue in the town of Bayambang in Pangasinan, Philippines. The sculpture of Saint Vincent Ferrer has reached a momentous height of 50.23 m (164 ft 9 in). It has been recognized as the “Tallest Bamboo Sculpture” in the world, by Guinness World Records, last April 5, 2019.

The St. Vincent Ferrer Statue dedicates to St. Vincent Ferrer, a venerated saint in Roman Catholicism who also serves as the patron saint of Bayambang. St. Vincent Ferrer was a Valencian Dominican friar and preacher who gained acclaim as a missionary and a logician. He is honored as a saint of the Catholic Church and other churches of Catholic traditions.

The statue is made of steel frames and engineered bamboo panels. The design of the sculpture was done through 3D polygon technology. Measuring 164 feet and 9.56 inches, it is said that the statue is taller than the Statue of Liberty in New York (which statue itself stands at 151 feet) and Christ the Redeemer of Brazil (which stands at 98 feet).
When you see the statue, you will surely be amazed at how tall and how the statue was constructed.

The Construction of St. Vincent Ferrer Statue

The groundbreaking ceremony for the whole St. Vincent Ferrer Prayer Park, the site of the statue took place on June 20, 2018. The construction of the St. Vincent Ferrer Statue took around ten months and involved 608 men and a woman. The prayer park project including the statue is privately funded by the Kasama Kita sa Barangay Foundation.

In particular, 60 tons of engineered bamboo and 600 tons of steel were used to build the statue. The detailed design of the statue was made by JQS Builders through 3D polygon technology. And the steelworks fabrication and design were made by Far East Industrial Supply & Co. and by the RAA Architects Engineers and Consultants. Covered with 22,626 bamboo panels, the statue lacks curvatures and consists of around 5,000 polygons, with the construction of the statue’s head depicting the saint’s curly hair with around 700 polygons being the most tedious.
